je schneller, nervöser und hektischer das leben bei uns in unsrer sogenannt 'zivilisierten welt' von statten geht, desto mehr schätze ich das karge, ereignislose leben im dorf unsrer familie, weitab von allen unnötigen konsumgewohnheiten und -möglichkeiten. auch wenn die leute hier ein hartes, karges leben fristen und von unsrem wohlstand träumen: schlussendlich sind sie zufriedener, sorgloser…

as faster and more nervous and hectic as our socalled 'civilised world' gets, as more i like the meagerly and easy life in the village of our family, far from all the unnecessarily consuption habits and -possibilities. even if the folks here live a hard, omitting life, (but dream of the western prosperity) at the end they are more satisfied and carelessly...

der allmorgendliche weckruf mit live gesprochenen nachrichten aus dem dorf, etwa um 6.30, gehört nicht unbedingt zu meinen lieblings-eindrücken im dorf. nicht wenige male hätte ich gern die kabel durchgeschnitten… aber thai's sind nun mal frühaufsteher und sehr morgenaktiv, definitiv keine nachtmenschen. aber was soll's dafür wartet ein gedeckter tisch: reis, fisch, curries, gebratenes und gegartes, frische früchte und sweeties, was will man mehr? brot, käse, kaffee gehören nun für die nächsten 3 monate der vergangenheit an… ich würde eh jedem thailand-reisenden wärmstens empfehlen, die üblichen essgewohnheiten zu hause zu lassen und sich auf neue erfahrungen einlassen. der reichtum der thai küche kommt wohl dem nahe was man hierzulande als 'schlaraffenland' bezeichnet.

the regulary morning call with live spoken news from the village, about 6.30am, will be definetely not one of my favourite impressions. not just a few times, i would love to cut the wires… but have to accept it, thai's are 'get-up-early's' and very activ in the morning, definetely no night-people… whats up! when get up there's a rich table of food ready: rice, fish, curries, fried and refined dishes, freshruits and sweeties wait for me. isn't it paradise? bread, chees and coffee will be banned for the next 3 months from my menue-plan… i would advice to evry thai traveller to let his own eating habits at home and open your mind to new experiences. the richness of thai cuisine seems to be this what we call in swiss the 'schlaraffenland' (sorry i don't know any translation for this word)

auch geister haben ihre laster… er/sie ist kettenraucher und trinkt, abgesehen vom fanta-pink auch mal gern nen thai-whisky...

even ghosts have very human habits… this one likes to smoke and beside of drinking the pink fanta, from time to time a thai whisky...
idyllisch… nicht?
aber vorsicht, stell dir vor, du müsstest ein halbes jahr von diesem wasser leben, zwar nicht grad zum trinken, aber selbst das trinkwasser ist abgestanden, wird von den hausdächern gesammelt. und die filteranlage fürs hahnenwasser entspricht wohl nicht den europäischen standards und hygienevorschriften…

but be careful, imagine you have to live from this water for a half year in the dry period. not yet for drink, but even the drinking water, collected from the roofs, isn't really fresh. and the filters for the tap water do not correspond with the european standards and hygienic regulations as well...

…weil der nachbar links einen vertrag mit einer dubiosen firma aus der papierindustrie unterzeichnet hat, und eukalyptus produziert. eine der vier todsünden der hiesigen landwirtschaftspolitik. die weiteren: versalzung des bodens durch salzgewinnung des salzhaltigen grundwassers, abbrennen der felder nach der ernte, respektive beim zuckerrohr zum teil soger vorher, um die arbeit zu verringern, sowie die rigorose entwaldung im ganzen isan innerhalb des letzten jahrhunderts. bei all diesen vergehen an der natur standen und stehen immer profitorientierte grosskonzerne und eine korrupte regierung die kräftig mitverdient, im hintergrund… für eine sonst schon trockene region sind all diese aktionen die absolute katastrophe…

answer: because the neighbour on the left has a contract with a suspect company from the paper industry and produces eucalyptus. one of the four deadly sins of the regional agrarpolitics. the other ones are: poisoning the earth by gaining the salt from the salty ground water, burning the fields after harvest (or even before by sugar cane) and at least the rigorous deforestation of the whole isan within the last century. responible for all these listed crimes against nature are profit orientated biig companies and a corrupt politic system who shares the profits of… for a dry area like the isan, all these actions are absolutely catastrophal...
maniok, angebaut zur gewinnung von glutamat, und wohl mehr und mehr zur produktion von treibstoff und anderen fragwürdigen produkten… ob die thais wissen, dass man die maniokknolle auch als nahrungsmittel verwenden kann, entzieht sich meiner kenntnis….

da macht der zuckerrohranbau schon wesentlich mehr sinn. nur sollten die organischen überbleibsel nicht verbrannt werden vor oder nach der ernte. mulchgeräte oder häcksler kennt man hier absolut nicht, ebensowenig wie das kompostieren von grünabfällen…
die beiden bilder hier sind vom familien eignen feld, die ernte ganz schön harte knochenarbeit, kann das aus eigner erfahrung bestätigen. die saftigen stengel sind ganz schön schwer und die trocknen blätter scharf wie rasierklingen…

to produce suger cane mkes more sense. but the farmers should not burn down the fields neither befor nor after harvest. to composting organic material is not in the conscouîousness of thai people, not yet..
both pics here are from the family's fields, the harvest of it is really a hard hard work, can tell you this from my own experiences. the fresh sticks are really heavy weight, and the dry leaves sharp as razorblades...
