sawatdee krap

eineinhalb monate sind mittlerweile vergangen seit meiner rückkehr in die schweiz, höchste zeit, mal die letzten photos auszuwerten… 

seit ein paar tagen herrscht in thailand nun kriegsrecht, die regierung ist entmachtet worden und eine politische lösung für eine vernünftige zukunft des landes in weite ferne gerückt. auch wenn es schwer verständlich ist, das eingreifen des militärs ist vielleicht die einzige möglichkeit, einen bürgerkrieg zu verhindern und die unüberbrückbaren differenzen zwischen den verfeindeten lagern zu neutralisieren…

one and a half months are gone since i'm back from the land of smile, time for a review, there still are some photos left…

since some days, thailand is under martial law and 'joined' a military coup, a reasonable political solution is more far than ever. but even when its hard to understand, perhaps this is at the moment the only way to prevent a civil war, the differences between the rivaling groups are too big meanwhile, to find a way back to normality...

ganze zwei stunden hab ich auf koh samui verbracht, zu hektisch für mich… und meine freunde, sis apsara und daniel lopes, die ich besuchen wollte, haben mich gleich mitgeschleppt nach kanom, einer schönen und etwas abgelegenen ecke bei surat thani, in die jungle bar am strand, wo wir eine lange nacht mit jam sessions und spontanauftritten gefeiert haben - eines meiner schönsten erlebnisse meines diesjährigen thailand-aufenthalts…

totally two hours i've spent in koh samui, definitely too hectic for me there… and my friends, sista apsara and daniel lopes, just taken me to kanom, a beautiful corner near surat thani, to the jungle bar, where we've spent a long night with jam sessions and spontaneous gigs - one of my favourite impressions from this year's thailand trip...

unscheinbare 'orchestermusiker', schwer zu sehn, aber nicht zu überhören, die zikaden, omnipräsent in jedem urwald, magisch und geheimnisvoll, wenn sie mal loslegen…

thailand 2557/10 cha yen or the secret of the thai ice tea

sawatdee krap (oder soll ich sagen: servus)

schon auf dem rückweg, zwischenstop wien, die zeit reicht grad nochmal für einen fotoreport…

der thailändische ice tea, 'cha yen' ist mittlerweile auch bei den 'farangs' immer beliebter, und entsprechend (schleichwerbung) für mein teegeschäft interessant. das geheimnis von dessen herkunft und rezept konnte ich mittlerweile lösen, und auch alle ungereimtheiten mit den beigefügten inhaltsstoffen klären. musste mich bisweilen mit vielen falschinformationen rumkämpfen. da thais nicht von natur aus tee trinker sind, und auf süsses und farbiges stehn, ist dem tee in thailand 'traditionsgemäss' etwas vanille-aroma und der berüchtigte 'sunset-yellow-farbstoff' beigefügt, was dem tee die knallige orange farbe verleiht. auch wenn dieser lebensmittelfarbstoff (E110) in der schweiz zugelassen ist, so nicht für die benutzung bei tee (essen darf man's - trinken nicht, möge unsre seltsame lebensmittelverordnung verstehen wer will) wie auch immer, die schweizer verzichten sowieso naturgemäss lieber auf solche zusätze… entsprechend kann ich den tee nun farbfrei für die schweiz importieren, seit ich nähere kontakte zum produzenten dieses tee's habe. auch der zusatz von vanille aroma wurde mir erst jetzt bestätigt. die thai tea company produziert ihre tee's nicht in eigenen plantagen, sondern kauft diese von vielen kleinen teegärten in der region chiang rai / maesalong ein, um dann einen dust-artigen, standardisierten feinschnitt blend zu produzieren, ein gehaltvoller, kräftiger tee mit dunkler tasse, ideal zum geniessen mit milch, in thailand speziell mit kondensmilch, und nicht zu wenig davon… der junior-chef der firma hat uns freundlicherweise eingeladen, die produktionsstätte zu besuchen, auf halbem weg zwischen chiang rai und chiang mai liegend, war das sowieso für uns ideal am weg…

the thai ice tea, 'cha yen' meanwhile also get more and more popular by 'farangs' so its an interesting product as well for my tea shop. (advertising! advertising!) long time a secret, hardly to find out where it comes from and whats the recipe of it, but meanwhile i could find out all about what's needed for selling by myself. as far as thais are not real tea drinkers, so they need urgently some adds for sweetening and coloring. 'traditionally' they add some vanilla flavour and the 'sunset yellow' color to the tea, what gives the heavy orange look… but since i have a closer connection to the producer, i get the chance to import it without the color…

the thai tea company don't produce the tea by themself, they just buy it from a lot of small local teegardens in the area of chiang rai / maesalong. and they produce a dust-like, standardised fine cut tea, of a strong and dark taste, ideally to drink with milk, in thailand especially with sweet condensed milk… we got invited to visit the production factory, on the half way between chiang rai and chiang mai...

im trocknungsraum, die verarbeitung des schwarztees ist um einiges weniger aufwendig als die verarbeitung zu oolong tee

 die getrockneten und geschnittenen teeblätter, weisen am ende eine standardisierte einheitsqualität auf

auf dem weg von maesalong runter nach chiang rai haben wir dieses 'luxury resort & spa' entdeckt, auch wenn unser budget eine übernachtung hier nicht zuliess, einen kurzen coffe break war's allemal wert… 'manee dheva' wure von einem renommierten thailändischen architekten realisiert und steht mitten im niemandsland zwischen all den reisfeldern. der bauer im letzten bild wird sich's wohl sein leben lang nur von aussen betrachten können…

on the way back from maesalong to chiang rai, we found this 'luxury resort & spa'. even when our budget did not allows us to sleep here, it was worth a coffee break anyway… 'manee dheva', realized by a famous thai architect, stands there in the nowhere land between all those rice fields. the farmer on one of the last pics will see this 'palace' his whole life just from outside, i imagine...
