zuallererst eine kleine korrektur: der 'seestern' vom letzten email ist natürlich und selbstverständlich ein seeigel. (noch genauer: Diademseeigel - (Diadema setosum)) danke reini, für deine aufmerksamkeit und hoffe, du hast dich von den verletzungen deiner begegnung mit ihm wieder erholt… er, der seeigel hat's übrigens in seiner karriere als fotomodel schon eine stufe weitergebracht, siehe link:

für heute sind die fotos mal ausnahmsweise und ausnahmslos nicht von mir selbst, sondern von guten freunden, , mit denen ich den weg geteilt habe… obwohl ich schon längst längst weitergezogen bin und mich zur zeit im norden thailands aufenthalte, hier die vorläufig letzten bilder aus koh chang, von einem lieben freund aus zürich, der am oberen ende, respektive am anfang der long beach gewohnt hat...

in der nahaufnahme erinnert das irgendwie an die matrix-filme, ein gestrandeter seestern in seinen letzten atemzügen… auch die rückbeförderung ins wasser hat nicht mehr wirklich geholfen, wohl etwas zu spät...

in the zoom, it reminds me somehow to the matrix movies, a stranded sea star, in his last breathings… even the returning into water did not helped much, finally too late for it...

thailand 2556/4 around the island and into the mangroves

(hab grad für ne stunde ein schnelles netz, drum grad 2 folgen gleichzeitig - nummer 5 und 6 warten auch schon in der schlaufe… aber nicht zuu viel aufs mal…. und nummer 5 ist dann definitiv nix für schwache nerven soviel mal um die spannung aufrechtuzuerhalten… hahaha)

(just have a fast web for an hour, so i send just 2 mails together - number 5 and 6 also are also waiting already in the queue… but not too much at once… and number 5 will be then definetley nothing for weak nerves… so much infos to keep the voltage high... hahaha)

nach einigen faulen tagen auf der veranda meines bungalows war mal wieder etwas körperliche aktivität angesagt. ich hab die insel 2 mal mit dem kanu in jeweils ca 7 stunden umrundet, das erste mal mit einem alten freund aus zürich, der mittlerweile auch vom koh-chang-virus befallen ist, und das zweite mal in gegenrichtung, alleine, aber dafür mit 3-fach eingepackter kamera. leider ist das fotografieren auf so kleinem boot aus sicherheitsgründen (ich kann zwar schwimmen, die kamera halt nicht) nur beschränkt möglich. so bleiben ein paar momente übrig, und die interessantesten eindrücke nur in der erinnerung haften… auf der hinteren seite der insel (die eigentlich die vordere ist, aber von touristen nicht bewohnt wird, da kein strand dazu einlädt) erklärt sich nun auch das letzte foto vom vorangegangenen email:

after some lazy days at the veranda of my bungalow it was time again for some physical activities. i paddeled around the island twice in 7 hrs each with the kajak, for first time with an old friend from zurich, who's meanwhile also got infected by the koh chang virus. the second time on the opposite side around, alone, but now with my 3 times covered camera. sadly, to take shots on a so small boat is difficult for safety reasons. (not because of me, i can swim, but my camera does not)

so there are just a few moments to get the chance to take some shots, the most interesting things must keep in memory… on the back side of the island (which is seriously the front side, but not used by tourists, because there's no beach which invites them) and, there's the answer to the latest email's last picture:

...es ist ein alter verfallener pier, der nun von hundertausend vögeln (hunderten) und muscheln (tausenden) bewohnt wird. es wäre sehr eindrücklich gewesen, den aufgescheuchten vogelschwarm abzulichten, aber eben… ein paar hab ich noch erwischt. es lohnt sich, mal in dieses foto reinzuzoomen… ebenfalls unmöglich zu erwischen waren der riesige manta, der ganz in der nähe aus dem wasser gesprungen ist, die wilde affenfamilie in den bäumen nahe der küste wie auch die über ihren köpfen kreisenden hornbills…

it's an old, broken pier, where now hundred thousands of birds (hundreds) and mussels (thousands) live. it would be very impressive, to catch all the birds when they flew away at my arrival, but, as explained above… just a few i finally could catch, it is worth to zoom in into the pic once… in the smae way impossible to catch on pic, were the huge sting ray jumping out of water nearby, the wild monkey family in the trees near the coast or the hornbills flying over their heads...

nun aber mal einen abstecher tief rein in die mangroven…sehr reizvoll waren die symmetrischen geometrien der wurzeln auf der spiegelglatten wasseroberfläche, die ich leider mit meinem besuch etwas durcheinandergewirbelt hab… jedoch, die schlangen, die blieben, wo sie sich versteckt hielten…

and now, lets take a short trip deep into the mangroves. very beautiful the symmetric geometries of the roots of the trees, mirroring on the smoothly surface of the water, which i sadly moved a little with my presence… but, the snakes, they stayed where they were hidden….

für einmal nicht weit draussen auf offener see, sondern gleich in der kleinen bucht bei saphan hin, hatte ich mal gelegenheit, die fischkutter in voller aktion zu beobachten, mit viel russ, lärm und 'geschmack' und allem was dazugehört...

for once not far out in the open sea, but just nearby in the small bay of saphan hin, i got the chance to watch the fishing boats in full action, with the smokey smog, noise, smelly taste and everything what belongs to it...

nach einer etwas längeren verschnaufpause am unteren kleinen strand, ao siad, bei tommy und seinen hübschen burmesischen küchengehilfinnen, konnt ich dann auf der schlussetappe zurück gerade noch knapp einem aufziehenden gewitter entwischen, bei hohen wellen und gegen die strömung… bin aber heil angekommen, mit etwas muskelkater und sonnenbrand am anderen tag...

after a longer break at the small southern beach, ao siad, visiting tommy and his beauty burmese kitchen girls, i just could hurry away from a small storm, with high waves and against the streaming water. but arrived well, with a muscular strain and some red skin the other day….

heute entführe ich euch mitten durch koh chang's dschungel auf die andere seite der insel… ah, zum glück war da jemand so freundlich, zu zeigen wo's lang geht...

today, let's take a trip through the jungle of koh chang to the other side of the island… aah, good luck, somebody was so gently to show the way...

….jedoch hier wird's schon schwieriger, links, rechts… oder gleich unten durch, durchs dickicht?

…but here it gets difficult. left? right? or just down below throug the wildlife?

was bei uns im ziergarten gehegt und gepflegt wird, wächst hier grad einfach so am wegrand…

der geist der in diesem baum lebt, muss wohl eine alte rastafari seele sein…

endstation mangrovenwald. was wurde wohl aus der besatzung…? (es leben kobras und python's hier in der gegend…)

es scheint zumindest, die andere seite kann nicht mehr so weit sein...

thailand 2556/2 my private island

herzlichen dank für all die positiven rückmeldungen auf's erste mail. das freut und motiviert gleichzeitig, um dranzubleiben… aber doch eine bitte: ich bin oft mit sehr langsamem internet unterwegs, darum bitte bei antworten entweder die fotos entfernen oder gleich ein neutrales leeres email schreiben. hab die bilder nun mehr als 20mal zurückbekommen, was meinen posteingang für stunden blockiert… da kommt nix mehr rein und geht nix mehr raus…

thanks a lot for all the positive feedback to my first mail, it makes me happy and gives motivation for further reports… but, please take notice: i'm on the road, often with a very slow internet access, so please delete the attached pics in your answer-mails, or just answer in a new, empty mail. got the pics now already 20 times back, what blocked my postbox for several hours, nothing goes out, nothing comes in anymore...

nach einem ausgiebigen aufenthalt im isan hat mich dann schon sehr die sehnsucht nach dem meer gepackt. also hab ich meine sieben sachen gepackt, und, via kurzaufenthalt in bangkok, meine geliebte kleine insel für 2 wochen besucht. eigentlich darf ich gar keine werbung für dieses kleine paradies mehr machen, mittlerweile sind die bungalows restlos ausgebucht, und auch nur grad weil mein lieblingshäuschen das teuerste ist, war es noch frei. jedoch ist es die 24.- chf pro nacht absolut wert, auch wenn ich dann die üblichen sprüche der anderen gäste über mich ergehen lassen musst… ('die schweizer können sich das ja leisten'… gut, ich bin ja auch nicht wie viele andere gäste dieser insel gleich für monate dort…seufz - leider nicht….)

auf koh chang hab ich auch immer am meisten zeit, musse und viele kreative inspiration für meine photographischen aktivitäten, darum werden die nächsten rundmails ausschliesslich von hier sein, die motive wiederholen sich zwar mehr und mehr, aber im ernst: kann man davon genug kriegen?

after a longer stay at home in isan, the sea calls me.. so i packed my seven things and travellled down, with a short stop in bangkok, to my beloved small island for about 2 weeks. recently i should not do further advertising for this small paradise, meanwhile all bungalows are full, and just because my favourite one is much more expensive than all the other ones, i got the good luck to get it. but it's absolutely worth the 24.- swiss franks for a night, even when i have to hear all the usual jokes ('ha, the swiss people can pay this'… ok, i'm not there for many months, same as not a few of the guests on this island)

at koh chang i always have plenty of time, inspiration and the right mood for creativity, to take a lot of photo shots, so the next mails will be exclusive from here…

frühmorgens in ranong am pier: ich bin da, aber das wasser noch nicht… drum halt noch ein bisschen geduld… kein problem in thailand!

grosses schiff, kleine insel… nein nein, das ist nicht koh chang, sondern koh bonsai…. und frachtschiffe wie dieses sind eher ungeöhnlich zu sehen in dieser gegend…

big boat, small island… no no, this is koh bonsai, not koh chang, …and freight-ships like this are rare to see in this area...

wenn das wasser bei ebbe zurückgeht, kommen die seezigeuner, die 'sea gypsies', und klauben die muscheln von den kantigen kliffen...

when the water leaves by low tide, the sea gypsies arrive, to pick up the mussels from the edgy cliffs...

weitere kommentare sind wohl hier überflüssig…
